FORMULAS TO ADJUST THE BLOOD

   They are formulas with strategic combinations able to adjust or rectify the blood and treat blood diseases.

Classification of diseases:

1. Insufficiency of blood. Where to tonify the blood.

2. Blood stasis. We have to move the blood and disintegrate the nodules of stagnation.

3. Bleeding. We must stop the bloodshed.

Classification of formulas:

1. Formulas to move blood and undo blood stasis are used to treat blood stasis and blockage of blood vessels.

2. Formulas to stop bleeding are used to treat bleeding or stop bleeding.

Precautions:

1. Maintain a balance between treatment to move blood and disintegrate blood stasis and treatment to stop bleeding.

2. Correctly differentiate whether the illness is from cold or heat syndrome, from insufficiency or excess syndrome.

3. As the Qi is the commander of the blood, one should properly apply the herbs capable of moving the Qi and tonifying or supplementing the Qi simultaneously with the application of the tonifying herbs to the blood. For this reason, there are methods of moving qi to clear blood stasis, supplementing qi to move blood and clearing channels, and supplementing qi to confine blood, etc.

4. It is necessary to be very careful when applying these formulas in case of attending pregnant or menorrhagia patients.

Note: The pulse of blood stasis usually presents as rough and hollow. The tongue is purplish and may present reddish spots in severe or chronic cases due to insufficiency or consumption of yin.

1. MOVE THE BLOOD AND DISINTEGRATE THE BLOOD STASIS

 

a) Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang - moving blood and disintegrating blood stasis, moving qi and calming pain. It is applied to treat blood stasis in the chest cavity that hinders blood circulation.

   Presents chest pain and headache, hypochondral pain. These pains are chronic and persistent stinging and fixed location with a dark red tongue with bruising on the edge of the tongue, dark lips, a rough or bowstring pulse and tense with ease of anger and nervousness or with anxiety and insomnia with heat and restlessness internal, tidal heat at night, heart palpitation and tachycardia, regurgitation with hiccup.

   * It is forbidden to apply to pregnant patients or patients whose blood stasis is not well confirmed.

b) Shi Xiao San - disintegrates nodules and soothes pain. It is used to treat blood stasis and blood stasis with manifestations of severe pain in the chest and abdomen or pain in the lower abdomen from fluid retention or irregular menstruation.

   It is always indicated to treat cardiac angina, ectopic pregnancies when they are caused by blood stasis.

   * Do not use in pregnant women or patients with a very weak spleen-stomach axis.

c) Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang - it supplements the qi and moves the blood by clearing the channels.

   It is used to treat illness caused by weakness in propulsion of the blood due to a deficiency of qi which causes blood stasis and obstruction of the channels and consequently a failure to nourish the tendons and blood vessels.

   It presents manifestations such as hemiparesis, facial paralysis with crooked mouth and eyes, dysphasia with drool discharge in the corners of the mouth or urinary frequency, enuresis.

Tongue: Dark without vitality with a white coating.

Pulse: Fine and weak or slow and weak.

d) Sheng Hua Tang - moves blood and undoes blood stasis, warms channels and numbs pain.

   It is used to treat postpartum blood insufficiency and blood stagnation due to freezing cold with manifestation of fluid retention, cold feeling and lower abdominal pain.

   This formula is used to treat blood stasis associated with frostbite such as total or partial retention of the placenta or constant postpartum uterine contraction pain.

   * It is prohibited to use in case of blood stasis or blood stagnation when it is associated with heat in the blood.

e) Wen Jing Tang - warms channels and expels cold, disintegrates blood stasis and nourishes the blood.

   Used to treat disease caused by insufficiency and cold in the Chong Mai (penetrating channel) and Ren Mai (conception vessel) channels and vascular obstruction due to the existence of blood stasis with main manifestations of: leukorrhea or menstrual blood incontinence, irregular menstruation with delay/ advance or constant hemorrhage exceeding the expected date, menstruation with alternate months, nocturnal fever associated with heat in the center of the palms with sexed mouth and lips, which may appear infertile after many years of marriage.

   It is applied to treat uterine bleeding, chronic pelvic inflammation when they are characterized by insufficiency syndrome and cold in the chong (penetrator) and ren (conception) channel associated with blood stasis and heat associated with false yin simultaneously.

f) Tao He Cheng Qi Tang - moves blood and disintegrates blood stasis, promotes defecation and clears channels.

   Used to treat heat accumulation in the lower heater due to the combination of heat and stagnant blood with discomforting characteristics of painful fullness in the lower abdomen, rejecting palpation in the same region accompanied by oliguria and in severe cases emotional agitation accompanied by delusions with alienated manifestations , night fever.

   In the case of a woman, she may have amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea due to blood stasis.

Pulse: Deep, full and rough.

   It is necessary to eliminate superficial syndrome if it exists to later treat blood stasis.

   * Do not use in pregnant women due to the violent action of herbs.

2. STOP HEMORRHAGE

   These formulas are used to stop all types of bleeding, such as: hematemesis, hemoptysis, epistaxis, menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, melena, etc.

a) Xiao Ji Yin Zi - freshen the blood and stop bleeding, promote diuresis and unclog the urinary tract.

   It is used to treat heat produced by blood stasis in the lower heater characterized by hematuria or blood stranguria, ie blood in the urine associated with urinary frequency and burning.

Tongue: red.

Pulse: fast

   * It is inconvenient to use in cases of insufficiency of vital energy because you have been ill for a long time and have hematuria.

b) Jiao Ai Tang - nourishing the blood and regular menstruation, comforting the fetus, stopping menstrual bleeding or stopping discharge.

   It is used to treat injury sustained in the Chong canal.  (penetrator) and Ren (conception) due to insufficiency of the organism whose manifestations consist of: uterine bleeding with excess menstrual blood for duration and  by quantity, it may be constant hemorrhage (metrorrhagia)  postpartum or hemorrhage during pregnancy associated  to abdominal pain.

   *Do not use to treat metrorrhagia, uterine haemorrhage, or gestational haemorrhage that are identified as heat syndrome with wind in the blood.

ç)  Ke Xue Fang  - eliminate fire and transform mucus, restrict pulmonary Qi to stop coughing.

   It is applied to control the liver fire that attacks the lung. The topic of the syndrome consists of: cough with thick sputum mixed with blood that is difficult to sputum, anxiety with an easy tendency to anger, stinging pain in the hypochondral chest region, malar flushing, constipation.

Tongue: Red with a yellow coating.

Pulse: Wiry and fast.

d)  Huai Hua San  - clean the intestines and stop bleeding, expel the intestinal wind and bring the Qi down.

   It is applied for fecal hemorrhage due to mucosal damage caused by hot wind and fecal hemorrhage due to accumulation of moist heat in the stomach or intestine.

   The topic of the syndrome consists of: bleeding before or after defecation, or with blood mixed with the stool. It can also be hemorrhoid hemorrhage whether it is bright red or dark in color.

   * Do not use for a long time due to its cold and fresh nature.

   * Do not use in case of insufficiency of Qi or insufficiency of Yin.
