Substances that stop bleeding treat various types of internal or external bleeding, such as hemoptysis, hematemesis, hematuria, metrorrhagia, menorrhagia, melena, and traumatic bleeding.
They refresh the blood, are astringent, remove stasis and warm the meridians. Combine according to the patient's symptoms and conditions:
- Bleeding due to heat in the blood we combine with herbs that eliminate heat and refresh the blood;
- In yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity with substances that strengthen yin and purge fire;
- In incessant bleeding due to blood stasis combine with herbs that strengthen Qi and blood circulation;
- In cases of deficient cold with herbs that warm the Yang, strengthen the Qi and tone the spleen;
- In excessive blood loss from collapse and Qi deficiency with potent tonic substances to strengthen primordial Qi and prevent collapse.
Haemostatic substances are roasted or carbonized to increase their effect, but not all of this group.
Inappropriate use of hemostatic substances to refresh and restrict the blood promotes blood stasis, so these substances should not be used alone in cases of bleeding accompanied by blood stagnation.
