WIND AND MOISTURE ELIMINATING SUBSTANCES - ANTIRHEUMATIC

  Anti-rheumatic substances

      Du Huo (Radix Angelica Pubescentis) - 3 to 10 g

      Wei Ling Xian (Radix Clematidis) - 5 to 10 g

      Fang Ji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae) - 5 to 10 g

      Qin Jiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae) - 5 to 10 g

       Mu Gua (Fructus Chaenomelis Lagenariae) - 6 to 12 g

      Luo Shi Teng (Caulis Trachelospermi - Star Jasmine) - 6 to 15 g

   Substances that eliminate  wind and humidity and relieve pain are known as antirheumatics. They eliminate wind and moisture from muscles, tendons and meridians; facilitate tendons, obstructions of collaterals and relieve pain; some nourish the liver and kidneys, strengthen muscles and tendons.

   They are indicated to treat Bi syndrome with manifestations of arthralgia, ankylosis and muscle spasms, indicated to treat flaccidity of the lower limbs and hemiplegia.

   Bi syndrome include wind, dampness, cold and heat.

   In the obstructions of the meridians by wind and humidity, stagnation of Qi and Blood, substances are used that activate the circulation of blood and Qi. Substances originating from insects eliminate pathogenic factors and relieve pain.

   For chronic Bi syndrome with deficiency of Qi and Blood, one should strengthen the Qi and Blood.

   In chronic cases with tendon and bone weakness, the kidneys should be nourished and the tendons, muscles and bones strengthened.

   Be careful with spicy, warm and dry substances as they can consume yin and blood and should be used with caution in patients with a deficiency of yin and blood.
