AROMATIC SUBSTANCES THAT TRANSFORM MOISTURE  

  Aromatic substances

      Cang Zhu (Rhizoma Atractyloidis) - 5 to 10 g

      Hou Po (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) - 3 to 10 g

      Huo Xiang (Herba Agastaches - Patchouli) - 5 to 10 g

      Pei Lan (Herba Eupatorii Fortunei) - 5 to 10 g

       Sha Ren (Fructus your Semen Amomi) - 3 to 6 g

      Bai Dou Kou (Fructus Amomi Cardamomi) - 3 to 6 g

      Cao Dou Kou (Semen Alpinaiae Katsumadai) - 3 to 6 g

      Cao Guo (Fructus Amomi Tsao-ko) - 3 to 6 g

   Aromatic substances disperse moisture and promote the transport and transformation function of the spleen. They are mostly spicy, warm and dry, activate the Qi circulation, dispersing moisture, strengthening the Spleen and Stomach.

   For cases of moisture retention in the middle warmer with symptoms of distension and fullness, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, thick moisture in the mouth, heaviness in the limbs, soft stools, and thick, greasy tongue lining.

   These substances treat both heat and cold moisture.

   If moisture is due to spleen deficiency, it should be combined with spleen tonics.

   If dampness is characterized by heaviness and stagnation, activate the Qi circulation with another herb.

   As these are warm and dry, they can damage the yin, so be careful in patients with yin deficiency.

   As these contain volatile oils, do not bake for a long time.
