Diuretic and exudative substances
Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) - 10 to 15 g
Zhu Ling (Sclerotium Polypori Umbellati) - 5 to 10 g
Ze Xie (Rhizoma Alismatis - Plantago aquaticae) - 5 to 10 g
Yi Yi Ren (Semen Coicis) - 10 to 30 g
Yin Chen Hao (Herba Artemisiae Capillaris Synonym: Herba Artemisia Scopariae) - 10 to 30 g
They are substances that promote diuresis and eliminate moisture, transforming accumulated moisture or fluid into urine. Clear heat and drain moisture.
They can increase urinary volume, facilitate diuresis and eliminate water and moisture, and are indicated for fluid retention, dysuria, edema, ascites, phlegm, stranguria, jaundice and hot moisture syndrome.
We have three classes of diuretics:
- Sweet or mild and slightly cold substances promote diuresis.
- Bitter and cold substances purge heat and promote diuresis.
- And we have substances to treat stranguria (slow and painful urine).
Diuretic substances should always be prescribed in combination with other related substances.
- Sudden edema of exogenous origin must be combined with herb that releases the exterior and promotes lung dispersion.
- Chronic edema that has spleen and kidney yang deficiency with herbs that warm and nourish the spleen and kidney.
- Stranguria combine with heat-purging herb.
