   Substances that subdue the liver's overactive Yang and suppress the liver's wind are known as "substances that pacify the liver and subdue the wind".

   Herbs that subdue yang, purge liver heat, and suspend seizures are indicated for headaches and dizziness due to hyperactive liver yang and seizures due to the liver's internal wind, as well as redness of the eyes and nebula.

   Crustacean derivatives are effective in calming the liver and subduing yang, insect derivatives are effective in stopping seizures, and some have both functions.

   In practice, they can be used in combinations with other substances:

- Those that purge heat are added in cases where the wind is produced by excess heat;

- Those that eliminate phlegm are added in cases complicated by excess phlegm;

- Add herbs that nourish Yin in cases of wind caused by Yin deficiency;

- Nourish the blood with specific herbs in cases of blood deficiency.

   Hyperactive liver yang and liver wind are often associated with palpitation and insomnia, so sedative substances are always applied simultaneously.

   Substances derived from minerals and crustaceans are heavy and their dosages should be large, however some insects are warm, dry and toxic and their dosages should be lower.

   Cold and fresh substances are not suitable for the treatment of chronic infantile seizures due to spleen deficiency and those which are warm and dry should be used with caution in patients with yin and blood deficiency.
