SUBSTANCES THAT ELIMINATE SURFACE SYNDROMES

  Superficial syndromes - spicy and warm substances

      Ma Huan (Herba Ephedrae) - 1.5 to 10 g  

      Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) - 3 to 10 g

      Zi Su (Folium Perillae) - 3 to 10 g

  Superficial syndromes - spicy and fresh substances

      Bo He (Herba Menthae) - 2 to 10 g

      Niu Bang (Fructus Arctii) - burdock seed - 3 to 10 g

       Sang Ye (Folium Mori Albae) - mulberry leaf - 5 to 10 g

   They are called substances to eliminate superficial syndromes that disperse superficial pathogenic factors (Biao Xie) managing to eliminate syndromes on the surface of the body (Biao Zheng).

   The clinical manifestations are: chills, fever, headache and body pain, superficial pulse sweat, among others.

   These are mostly spicy in flavor and light in consistency, corresponding to the Fei (lung) and Pang Guang (bladder) channels.

   It has the sweating functions and eliminates superficial syndromes, favoring diuresis, deflating, antitussive and slows down wheezing; disperses damp wind, stimulates the movement of Qi and blood, treating arthralgia and pain anesthesia, undoes swelling, among others.

   Spicy and warm substances disperse the cold wind that is observed by the tense and slow pulse, thin lingual coating.

   Spicy and fresh substances disperse the hot wind that is observed by the superficial and rapid pulse, thin and yellowish lingual coating.

   Control the dosage when the substances have a violent sweating action, and stop using it as soon as the disease is relieved.

   Since sweat and blood are of the same origin, great care should be taken when applying to patients who have spontaneous and night sweats and Jin Ye (organic fluid) insufficiency.

   The dosage and types of superficial syndromes must be properly selected according to the environment, climate, temperature and season of the year.

   Herbs with a spicy and light property, easily evaporate their smell and their properties in cooking and, therefore, they should not be cooked for too long, in order to preserve their therapeutic effect.
